Half of my immediate siblings live in Boulder Colorado, and though I don't get to visit too often, when I'm there my breath is taken away every time.
The intimidating vastness and the jagged peaks inspired me to create an environment based on the humbling beauty of something so big and ancient.

The Main asset used to create this piece was the Unreal Landscape tool. I used Houdini FX to create a height map of the Flatirons mountain range, combining satellite data and Houdini's Landscape Erosion tools. I learned a lot about optimizing a level this large, and the challenges of representing density, complexity, and variety in a real-time environment.
